HKD Snowmakers is the Official Snowmaking Supplier to the U.S. Ski Team.

Partners in Speed

HKD Snowmakers is proud to announce their long-term alliance with the U.S. Ski Team as the Official Snowmaking Supplier.

This first of its kind partnership kicked off in the summer of 2011 with the installation of 87 Automated HKD Snowguns at the U.S. Ski Team's Speed Center at Copper Mountain in Colorado.

The Speed Center at Copper Mountain provides the U.S. Ski Team with early season, world-class downhill and super G ("speed events") training that's close to home. It consists of the trails, Andy's Encore, Oh No, and Rosi's Run and finishes at the base of the Super Bee lift. The training run starts at 12,000 feet, covers nearly 2 miles, and drops 2,300 vertical feet, allowing athletes to soar down the mountain at speeds up to 75 mph.

HKD Automatic Snowguns cover the 2 miles of terrain and provide the speed and efficiency to open the terrain very quickly and in early season conditions.

The 87 snowguns are controlled by a snowmaker through a computer or hand-held device and are connected to the HKD automatic network. The snowguns start, stop, and adjust based on snow quality settings, temperature, pressure, and wind speed. The goal of the HKD Automatic System is to produce the maximum amount of snow, in the shortest period of time, with minimal resources.

"HKD Snowmakers has played a vital role in the development of the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper" explains Bill Marolt, the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association President and CEO. "By capitalizing on the speed and efficiency of HKD Snowmaking Automation, we can consistently deliver exclusive full length downhill training in early November to help our athletes become best in the world."
